Year 2 have had a fabulous start to the new academic year and they have settled really well into the new routines.
In Maths we have been learning about numbers and place value. Children have grouped straws in tens to help them count large amounts in a faster way. They have used dienes to represent a number and they have learned to partition the number into tens and ones using a tens frame and a number bond diagram. They are beginning to be confident to represent numbers in different ways.
We have been revising sounds we already know and using our phonics to write words and sentences, trying our best to use good handwriting and punctuation. We have enjoyed listening to the story of Tiddalick the Frog and after performing it to our classmates, we have written the story in our own words following the success criteria and using our best handwriting.
In Science we are learning about materials, their properties and their suitability for different objects. We have learned to classify them according to their properties and we know which materials are natural or man made.
In Humanities we are learning about our wonderful world and the continents and oceans in it, locating them on a map. We have researched facts about Australia and Antarctica and we have even explored where we live using Google Earth. In RE we learned about Raksha Bandhan and wrote thank you letters to our friends for always being there for us.
Please encourage your child to use Doodle everyday for about 10 minutes so their Maths and English skills improve as they have fun collecting stars. Little and often goes a long way. Doodle homework is set on Thursdays and should be completed by Monday. Your child should be able to see their two pieces of homework as they log in to DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish and click on the red button 'Extra'. Please remember to log onto the BigCat website for your child to read the books that have been assigned to them.
