Year 5 have had a great couple of weeks. In English we celebrated National Poetry Week by reading At the end of the day by Matt Goodfellow. The children then wrote their own poems which they thoroughly enjoyed. In maths this children have been working on addition and subtraction up to 1000000. They have used manipulatives such as place value counters to support with the renaming process. In reading the children have been working on their retrieval and predicting skills whilst reading a variety of texts. Last week in PE the children were working on their balancing skills. This week the children started swimming lessons which they very much enjoyed.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We will be starting multiplication and division.
Writing - After half term we will be starting our new book Kensuke's Kingdom.
Reading - In Reading we will be moving onto focusing on our predicting and summarising skills.
History - We will be looking at why the Shang Dynasty came to an end.
Art - In art the children will be creating their own maps with a 3D element to them.
