This half term our theme is 'Growing and transitions'. Over the past two weeks we have been reading the books 'The Train Ride' and 'When I grow up'.

We have enjoyed reading the book 'When I grow up' and learning the Makaton signs for the phrase 'When I grow up'. We have also been listening to the song 'When I grow up' (from the musical Matilda) and trying to learn the words and actions. 

In Maths, we have been recapping 2D shapes - circle, square, triangle and rectangle - and 3D shapes - sphere, cube, cylinder. 

In Phonics, we have looked at the digraphs 'ng' ('ring' and 'king') and 'nk' ('pink' and 'tank'). Everyone in Nursery has done such a great job with their phonics this year and have tried so hard to learn the different sounds. They continue to work on their segmenting and blending and are working on hearing the sounds in the words and then blending them together in their heads (e.g. c-a-t becomes cat). 

On Thursday we had our beach day where we were very excited to take a train ride to the seaside! We gave the ticket collector our tickets and boarded the Nursery train. When we got to the beach we enjoyed building sandcastles, splashing in the paddling pool, making toy ice creams, playing in the ball pool and we even had an ice pop in the shade of the tree in the garden! An amazing day was had by all!

As the end of the school year approaches we have been thinking about what changes will be happening over the next few weeks and months. We have also been thinking about what we might like to be or do when we grow up.

Nursery have done so much learning and growing this year and we can't wait to see what adventures all of the children will get up to as they carry on their journeys!
