Year 5 have enjoyed another mind-blowing couple of weeks. Our journey with Katherine Rundell’s "The Explorer" has taken us far beyond the Amazon Rain forest. To truly understand the characters' dilemmas, Year 5 engaged in a powerful conscience alley activity. Becoming Fred, Lila, Con or Max through this immersive experience allowed students to explore the complexities of morality and empathy, bringing the story to life in a truly impactful way. Year 5 has aslo been tackling decimals head-on using manipulatives. From place value counters to base ten blocks, these hands-on tools have provided a concrete understanding of decimal representation and operations. This practical approach has fostered a deeper understanding and boosted confidence in tackling decimal problems. Our budding botanists have been busy in science lessons too, dissecting flowers to explore their intricate structures. With careful observation and detailed diagrams, students have identified the various parts of a flower, understanding their roles in pollination and reproduction. This hands-on investigation has sparked curiosity and provided a fascinating insight into the natural world. Finally, this week, Year 5 have been diving into the world of first aid, learning crucial skills that could make a real difference in an emergency. One of the key techniques they've mastered is the recovery position, a vital skill for anyone who might encounter someone unconscious but breathing. We've also added some World Book Day highlights too!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Decimals, percentages and fractions
Writing - The Explorer - Writing a newsflash
Geography - Why Oceans Matter - Why are our oceans suffering?
Science - Life Cycles And Reproduction - Life cycles of mammals and amphibians
