In English we have been exploring the character of Pattan from the story 'Pattan's Pumpkin'. We  sequenced the story and thought about how he felt at different parts of the story. We wrote a dairy entry remembering to use the words I, we and my. In maths we have been solving addition and subtraction word problems. We looked for key words in the problem to know whether we needed to add or subtract. In science we have started our new unit of work on animals. We have sorted pictures of animals into groups and written riddles to guess the animal group using scienctific vocabulary. In DT we have been exploring how wheels and axles work in preparation for making our moving monsters next week. In geography we went for a walk around the block to look for signs to know what season it is. We saw leaf buds, daffodils and blossom. We also heard lots of bird song and even saw some birds carrying twigs to make their nests. We loved celebrating World Book Day yesterday. The costumes were amazing!

Next week for geography we will be going to the Kingston Site to use a compass and explore north, south, east and west. Next week we will also be participating in a science workshop for Science Week.

Spring 2:

Maths - We will exploring 2D and 3D shape as well as identifying and continuing shape patterns and sequences. We will also be exploring measuring height and length using non standard and standard units. Towards the end of this half term we will be reviewing all the maths learnt so far this academic year.

Writing - Throughout the term we will be writing a diary entry, retelling a familiar story and . We will continue to reinforce writing sentences which start with a capital letter and have a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark at the end.

Geography - In geography we will be answering the question 'What is the weather like in the UK?'

Science - After half term we will be comparing animals.

DT: In DT we will be exploring axels and using our knowledge to design and make a moving vehicle. We will also be exploring how to join fabric to make a hand puppet.
