It's been another fantastic couple of weeks in Year 6, packed with exciting learning opportunities across all subjects. In English, we've been completely absorbed by Louis Sachar's brilliant novel, 'Holes'. The children have loved following Stanley Yelnats' journey to Camp Green Lake. To really put ourselves in Stanley's shoes, we've been writing diary entries from his perspective, imagining what it would be like to arrive at the camp and face the challenges ahead. Their entries have been incredibly thoughtful and creative! Our science lessons have taken us into the amazing world of invertebrates! We've been learning all about creatures without backbones. The children have been busy identifying the different parts of various invertebrates and then, to really solidify their understanding, they've been using play-dough to create their own models. It's been a very hands-on way to learn! Continuing our understanding of the census, the children have been learning all about the different jobs people did during the Victorians, from chimney sweeps to scullery maids, and comparing them to present day occupations. To truly understand what life was like, we've been acting out these various roles, bringing history to life right in our classroom. Finally, we were incredibly fortunate to receive a fantastic workshop from Transport for London (TFL). The TFL team delivered an engaging and informative session, teaching us all about navigating buses, trains, and the Underground safely, responsibly, and respectfully. It was a really valuable experience that will help prepare them for future journeys!
