Year 5 have certainly been busy this fortnight! In English, our imaginative thinkers have been planning fantastic survival narratives, taking inspiration from Kensuke's Kingdom. They are crafting their own versions of Michael and Stella's desert island adventure, focusing on rich descriptions and character development. Our mathematicians have expertly tackled numbers up to 1,000,000 and are now sharpening their addition and subtraction skills, exploring several efficient methods to solve complex problems. Scientists have been hands-on, completing two exciting experiments to master the separation techniques of filtering and sieving. They even had a great discussion about the practical differences between a sieve and a colander and why you'd choose one over the other in the kitchen. Meanwhile, our artists have blended geography and design, using various pencils to create stunning drawings superimposed over maps, continuing their exploration of typography. Finally, in History, they have uncovered a fascinating side to the Vikings, moving beyond their reputation as just raiders! We discovered the complex network of trade routes they established, understanding why commerce was essential for their communities and how it helped them connect across vast distances.
