What a busy and engaging fortnight it has been in Reception! Last week, we embarked on an exciting adventure with the story 'Meerkat Mail', thoroughly enjoying reading all the postcards tucked inside the book. Inspired by Sunny the Meerkat's travels, we then pretended we were on holiday and wrote our very own postcards, trying exceptionally hard to remember our capital letters, finger spaces, and full stops. In Maths, we explored the fascinating world of 3D shapes, playing fun games that involved describing their properties to our friends. To prepare for designing and making our own boats, we have started learning about different types of boats and their features. We have also enjoyed giving Marty the Robot various instructions to make him move, creating different codes using coloured cards to control his movements.
This week, we were enchanted by the story 'The Singing Mermaid'. This sparked our creativity as we made wonderful underwater art creations and wrote descriptive sentences about different sea creatures, making a special effort to form our letters correctly. In Maths, we have been learning all about money; we transformed our classroom into a shop, eagerly using 1p and 2p coins to buy different items. We also enjoyed looking at bird's eye images of our school and then had a go at building our own maps using items found around the classroom. Furthermore, we have been focusing on developing our independence, and it has been great to enjoy some whole-class lessons designed to help prepare us for the exciting transition to Year 1!
