Transition from year 2 to year 3 can sometimes be a daunting time for children, however, the children have settled into year 3 fantastically and are finding their way around the school easily. Since starting, they have been investigating place values up to hundreds in maths. During their writing lessons, they have used the text "How To Bath a Mammoth" to plan and write a set of instructions. They have also been learning about nouns and adjectives, verbs and adverbs, and imperative verbs. They have had great fun learning about prehistory (BC/BCE). We used a toilet roll to show the timeline - each sheet was 1000 years. To show AD/CE we only needed 2 sheets but when we unraveled the toilet roll, they discovered just how far they had to go back to get to the beginning of history. They have also been given their Chromebooks and they are learning all about Google Classroom, Nearpod, and a variety of other programs.
They have learnt about how they can access Century and Times Tables Rock stars at home. Century is a fantastic program where they can access maths, reading and science activities. From time to time, the teachers will add specific nuggets for the children to access supporting their learning.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - the children will move on from looking at place value of digits up to 999 to addition.
Writing - We will be reading the book "Stone Age Boy" and using it to create setting descriptions and diary entries.
History - We will investigate how bronze influenced prehistoric Britain and how trade affected the Iron Age.
Science - Science investigation will be at the forefront of our learning as we look at Muscles and Movement, and Eating for Survival.
