Year 1 have enjoyed using the Teddy Bears Picnic story as a stimulus for their writing. They have written an invitation, shopping list and instructions to make a jam sandwich. We had a great time on Wednesday laughing and playing with our soft toys on Wednesday morning. In maths we have been recapping numbers to ten. We have been counting and ordering numbers, writing numbers in words and comparing numbers. We have used the phrases more than, less than and equal or the same as. In science we have been learning about what the weather is like in the different seasons of the year. In history we have begun to explore our own history by thinking about memories of cherished events. In art we have been looking at the artwork of Molly Haslund and explored drawing spirals.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We will be continuing our work on 0 - 10 and also introducing using the part part whole model to represent numbers.
Writing - Our new writing stimulus will be 'Paddington Bear'. We will be exploring the main character, sequencing the story and writing a retell of the story. We will be focusing on using capital letters and full stops in our sentences.
History - In history will be exploring how special events are celebrated and what it was like for children in the past.
Science - We will be looking at how the hours of sunlight change in the different seasons and how trees change throughout the seasons.
