What a fantastic start to our new topics in Year 5! In English, we have been captivated by the adventures in Kensuke's Kingdom and this week, we used our critical thinking skills to write some incredibly persuasive balanced arguments on whether Michael should have sailed around the world with his family. The children's insights were truly impressive! In Maths, our focus has been on mastering place value and confidently comparing large numbers up to 1,000,000. It's a challenging concept, but the children have shown great perseverance.
Our new Science topic, Mixtures and Separation, has been a huge hit! The class loved becoming young scientists as they completed a hands-on experiment to see if they could successfully separate a mixture of sand, rice, and pasta. Did you know that filtering a mixture can often be a great way to separate a solid from a liquid? In History, we’ve sailed back in time to the world of the Vikings and created a detailed timeline of key historical moments. We even started exploring a new type of music in our music lessons: sea shanties! The children have been enthusiastically singing 'What should we do with a drunken sailor?' with gusto. It’s been a busy and productive fortnight, and we are so proud of all the hard work everyone has put in.
