Year 6 have had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks. This week we've been working hard doing our first round of mock SATs. Already the results are showing how hard we are all working! Last week, in English, we wrote non-chronological reports about an imaginary lizard. In maths, we have been learning about decimals. We've been lucky enough to have a trip and workshops as well!
Last week, we went to the Sutton Life Centre where we were spoken to by police and fire officers, as well as ambulance crew, members from Transport For London and Sutton Health Trust. We learnt first aid, how to be safe on London transport, what to do in a fire and how to keep healthy. This week, we've had some interactive Mayan workshops where we learnt about Mayan numbers, words, rituals, sacrifices and experienced some Mayan food tasting. We then took part in some drama activities to find out more about Mayan beliefs and customs.
We were also supposed to have an engineering workshop this week but the company had to reschedule. This will now take place in January.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - multiplying and dividing decimals
Writing - we will be focusing on writing a formal letter
Reading - we will be looking at character analysis
History - we will be learning at primary and secondary sources to learn more about the Mayans
Science - we will be planning for our Light Day which is happening on Tuesday 19th December.
