In maths, Year 5 have just finished their multiplication and division topic, mastering their understanding of factors and multiples. In English, they embarked on a creative writing journey, helping Michael from our class book, Kensuke's Kingdom, build a fire by crafting a set of clear and concise instructions. Our geography lessons took us on an exciting exploration of how land changes over time, examining the different types of settlements with a focus on what type of settlement Sutton is. They then looked at how our local area has changed over time.
Last week the children used Now Press Play to learn all about how we can reduce our carbon footprint. They found this particularly engaging and asked many interesting questions. This activity linked nicely to the Earth Hour we took part in on Friday afternoon where we turned off all possible electricity in the classroom to try and improve our carbon footprint. The children had great fun coming up with different activities they could do without using electricity.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - We will be moving onto how we can use bar models to solve problems.
Writing - We will be writing a non-fiction piece linked to our class text Kensuke's Kingdom.
Reading - In Reading we will be focusing on a mixture of retrieval, inference and prediction.
Geography - We will be exploring the different time zones across the world.
