Nursery have settled back into school well and have excitedly started their new topic 'Out of this World'. The children were excited to share photos from their Seesaw accounts and talk to the class about their half term news, thinking carefully about speaking clearly and looking at their audience. We read the book '10 Little Pumpkins', listening carefully for rhyming words and trying to use our fingers to represent some numbers up to 10. We have been learning the nursery rhyme 'Incy Wincy Spider' and the makaton signs for spider, sun and again. We learnt about firework safety and used lots of different media to create firework pictures. We used our voices to explore different sounds and shapes that we could make. We are continuing to develop our independence by all trying hard to put on our coats independently, some of us have even been learning to write the first letter of our name!
Over the last 2 weeks Nursery has read 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Gingerbread Man'. They have cotuned to develop their Makaton skills, learning the signs for key characters in our focus books. In Maths, they have explored size and using language to describe items such as 'big' and 'small', ordering objects by size. They have developed their mark making skills, focusing on representing people using shapes, as well as using media to create pictures. They have explored some basic 2D shapes and identified them in the environment. In phonics, they have been learning how to say the sounds I and P, exploring words that start with these sounds. Music sessions have been thoroughly enjoyed, with this week using drums to play to a beat and explore fast and slow tempos. The week was finished with the children understanding the importance of hygiene when handling food and everyone decorated a gingerbread man!
