We've had a busy and engaging few weeks in Year 5, with students diving deep into history, art, and mathematics! Here's a snapshot of what they've been working on.
Our students have truly taken on the role of historians. They've been focusing on how to write like an expert, moving beyond just reporting facts to critically analysing evidence. A key part of this unit has involved wrestling with historical sources, considering their origins, and developing skills in interpreting their reliability. The children have learned that not all sources are equally trustworthy and have been debating the best way to piece together the past based on the evidence available.
Year 5 completed their vibrant art unit on Typography—the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing. They explored different fonts, sizes, and layouts, creating some truly innovative and expressive pieces. The unit culminated in an exciting gallery session where students showcased their work and had the opportunity to admire and celebrate the creativity demonstrated across the entire year group.
In maths, we've been tackling the essential concepts of multiples and factors. Students have been learning to identify and list both, and should now be able to explain to you what a common factor is (a number that is a factor of two or more other numbers).
To succeed in this area, a secure knowledge of times tables is absolutely crucial! We can't stress this enough. Please ensure your child continues with daily practise on TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars), as this is vital for building the fluency needed to master these more complex topics.
