It has been wonderful to welcome all our Year 6 children back after the summer holidays. They have all settled in brilliantly and are already working incredibly hard.
In English, we have started looking at the book 'Holes', and the children were completely intrigued by the props and quotes that gave clues to things that might happen later in the story. Why were there onions? Why were there trainers hanging from the wall?
In Maths, we have started our topic of 'Place Value', reading and writing numbers to 10,000,000.
Our new Science topic has introduced us to the scientist Carl Linnaeus and how he developed a system to classify and group all living creatures.
We have also started looking at the Ancient Maya in History, identifying when their civilisation started and ended, where they lived, and the challenges they faced when settling in the rainforest.
To finish a busy week, we completed our first set of practice SATs papers. The children all faced these with a lot of resilience and maturity - well done!
Reminders:
Swimming will start next Monday, the 15th of September and PE for Sapphire and Quartz will be on Tuesdays.
Thank you to those children who have already started sharing their homework with us. Please remember that one piece of homework is due in every week, by Monday.
