YEAR 1

Welcome to the Year One Zone!

We couldn't be more proud of our ambitious, adventurous and caring Year Ones on their beautiful manners, transitioning and excitement they have brought with them from Reception. 

We have had a busy couple of days filled with art, role-playing and learning new skills on our Chromebooks (the highlight of the second week). 

We have been following our literacy road map and immersing ourselves in our new book 'The Shopping Basket' where we have watched our main character, Steven, meet all sorts of crazy animals on his adventure to the shops. We had some fantastic acting from everyone and a highlight was Miss Mitchell playing all 9 characters to model our immersion and role-playing. We are on our way to writing grocery lists and remembering all our important features when writing one! 

Never forgetting our capital letters!

In Art we have been exploring our new topic, Spirals. We have been experimenting with chalk on the outdoor playground, creating overlapping and exciting circles. We are working towards using different mediums to develop our artistic selves. We learnt about visual notes and creating art based on our feelings and emotions. 

In Science we have been exploring the weather, wishing for more Summer sun! We created mobiles for each season and looked at the different weather and conditions we have in each season. We made some beautiful creative mobiles hanging in our classroom. 

In Maths, we are exploring days of the week and months of the year. We practised our 'Adams family' inspired song which helped us remember the order of the days. 

In P.E. we have explored outdoor games which is always a highlight for our week!

In History we have begun looking at our personal chronology. We had a blast creating timelines of ourselves, including Miss Mitchell and Miss Stefanova, whose pictures were a highlight at the end of the lesson to see! We created a class timeline based on our birthdays and adored seeing everyone's photos showing their growth over the years. 

We have had a jam packed two weeks and are thrilled with the attitude towards learning our Year Ones are showing.
