Year 5 has had a fantastic start to the new school year, and both Mr. Bailey and Mrs. Champness are incredibly impressed with the children's motivated attitude and enthusiasm for learning! 🤩 Both classes are quickly adapting to the increased expectations of Year 5 and should be very proud of themselves.Â
Building on learning from Year Four we have been working hard on our times tables, and the hard work is paying off—some children have already earned their 144 certificates! We can't stress enough how important times tables fluency is for future maths success, so please encourage your child to continue practising at home, especially using Times Tables Rockstars.Â
In English, we've been captivated by our class text, 'The London Eye Mystery.' The children have not only enjoyed the thrilling plot but have also explored how being neurodiverse can be a superpower, which is a key theme of the book. The children have written some excellent diary entries from the perspective of the main character, Ted, and tried hard to include our grammar focus of the week: relative clauses. You can support their grammar learning by encouraging them to use Century at home.Â
As historians, the children have been incredible, carefully analysing sources of evidence on Henry VIII to decide whether he was a fair king or a tyrant, paying close attention to bias. To extend their learning and enthusiasm for our topics, we encourage children to explore the many opportunities on our Year 5 homework matrix, which can be found on Google Classroom.
Let's maintain this great start Year Five!
