Hello and welcome to Year 2. The children have come back to school full of enthusiasm for their learning and ready to achieve.
This week, we have used the book, We Are Here by Oliver Jeffers which explores our planet and all the wonders you can find on it. We used this to create expanded noun phrases and lists and used these to help us write a description. We have also used this book in our Reading lessons and have used it to predict what the book may be about by looking for clues on the covers and have created our own planets using ideas from the text. We also wrote a book review and picked out our favourite features of the book.
In Maths, we have been focusing on pairs of numbers that make 10 and 20. We have used practical tasks and written tasks to assess our knowledge.
In Science, we have looked at the characteristics of living things and determined what features they all share. We thought of examples of these features in both animals and plants.
We have begun our topic, Would you rather be in a hot place or a cold place? We have practised identifying the seven continents and identifying them on a map.
Art
We have begun our topic on line drawing by creating a visual notes in our sketch books using pastels and pencils.
