Year 4 have been creative and resilient creating pavilions in D.T. We explored how to build stable models, created designs, worked together to create a frame then created cladding to complete our pavilions. The photos below show the marvellous results.
Year 4 are continuing to use the story of Beowulf to inspire our writing. We have a non-chronological report about the Anglo-Saxons using the subheadings, Who are the Anglo-Saxons, Food and Drink, Jobs and Work and Crime and Punishment. We used formal language and conjunction to make our writing more interesting and wrote in the third person. We then illustrated our work with pictures and captions.
In Reading, we have continued the book, The Wolf Trials by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. Eira, a hidden princess continues in her journey to try to complete the Wolf Trials. We have been using the text to develop our comparison skills and to infer meaning in the text. We compared how the characters and their relationships have changed from the beginning of the book and used clues to help us infer how the characters were feeling.
In Maths, we have begun a new unit focusing on geometry. We have explored common triangles and quadrilaterals and described their angles and sides. We also explored symmetry, identifying lines of symmetry on figures and shapes and completing symmetrical patterns.
In Science, we have continued with our topic sound and vibration. We have measured the pitch of different sounds and looked at how the vibrations altered as the pitch changed. We also tested a range of materials to see which would make the best sound insulator.
We have continued our History topic, How hard was it to invade and settle Britain? We have explored the Anglo-Saxon hierarchy with the king at the top and the peasants and slaves at the bottom end of society. We then looked at how the Anglo-Saxon era ended with the Battle of Hastings. We looked at each of the potential kings and why they thought they were entitled to be king.
