YEAR 2
YEAR 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
We've had a busy and productive week in Year 2!
Writing:
This week, we continued our exploration of Sandra Dieckmann's "Leaf." Last week, we immersed ourselves in the story through role-playing, acting out key scenes and embodying the characters. This allowed us to deeply understand the narrative and the emotional journey of Leaf. We retold the story in our own words, focusing on using adverbs of time and manner to enhance our writing. We are working on incorporating words like "suddenly," "gently," "swiftly," and "eventually" to make our retellings more vivid and engaging for our readers.
Maths:
To end the half-term, we have continued our exploration of 3D shapes, focusing on understanding their properties. We have reinforced our knowledge of vertices, edges, and faces, and applied this to various activities. We explored nets of 3D shapes, learning how they unfold to create 2D shapes. We have also been grouping shapes based on their properties and creating patterns using different 3D shapes.
Science:
This week, we focused on the importance of hygiene and staying healthy. We discussed various ways to maintain good hygiene, such as handwashing, brushing our teeth, and eating nutritious foods. We explored how germs spread and how we can protect ourselves from illness.
History:
We honed our oracy skills this week, engaging in lively discussions about the continuity and change in the history of flight. We debated the differences between early flying machines and modern aircraft, considering the technological advancements and the impact on society.
D.T.:
Our creative minds have been busy designing and creating pouches! We have been focusing on developing our sewing skills, practicing different stitches and techniques. We spent time planning our designs, considering the size, shape, and materials for our pouches.
R.E.:
We continued our exploration of the Easter story, delving into the significance of the events. We also expressed our understanding and creativity by making our own Easter cards, incorporating symbols and messages related to the Easter narrative.
We want to take this opportunity to say thank you for your continued support and that we hope you have a wonderful Easter break.
Sincerely,
The Year 2 Team
