Year 1
Year 1
It's hard to believe that we are already at the end of the Spring Term! How lovely to have the lighter evenings and hopefully a bit more sunshine, especially during the Easter break!
In maths, we have been adding within 20. We used the tens frames when we were adding teen numbers and focused on totalling the ones digits and then adding the 10 back on. We are getting proficient in stating 13 is made of one ten and three ones and when we say 13+2 we know 3+2=5 so 13+2=15. We have also enjoyed doubling and halving numbers to 20.
In Literacy, we used the text 'One Day On Our Blue Planet.... The Savannah', to write our own stories about a lion cub. The children chose other animals from the Savannah as characters in their stories and planned a problem and solution. They recorded their stories on Seesaw so please do take the time to listen to them at home. They then wrote their stories into their own booklets. It has been amazing seeing all our budding authors flourish!
Our DT topic ended with the children making windmills from junk modeling. They worked collaboratively in pairs or groups of three and created some fantastic looking windmills!Â
Our final lessons in science and geography were on Seesaw and assessed the children's learning for the topics this halfterm. Take a look to see how well your child did; the 'drag and drop' answers are great for showing who got questions right with their first answer!
Thank you to everyone who brought in donations for the Easter raffle. The classes each had bags made up by Mrs Grice, with the donations from that class, and the children were very good cheering whoever's name got drawn out of the box! All the tickets were then added to the whole school box for the big Easter prize held in our celebration assembly.
Thank you again for your continued support and we hope you all enjoy a fantastic break.
