Since Year 4 have returned from our half term break, they have been very busy.
In Writing, we have been revising a range of different grammatical elements including pronouns, proper nouns, determiners, prepositions, adverbs and subordinating clauses and conjunctions. in preparation for our termly tests. We have become very good at identifying the different parts of sentences and explaining how changing one word can change the meaning of the whole sentence.
In Maths, we have begun a new topic of Geometry. We have explored different types of angles and their properties, identified types of triangle from their features and expanded our knowledge of quadrilaterals by exploring the similarities and differences in trapeziums, rhombus, parallelograms. We are now starting to identify lines of symmetry in shapes and patterns.
In Science, we have explored how animals are suited to the habitat they live in and how they can find all the things they need to survive in this habitat. The animals always needs a food source, somewhere to shelter and somewhere to bring up their young. We have also looked at the local environment and how it has been changed by humans and how this affects the living things in that environment.
We were lucky to have an art lesson with Rose to complete our Amazing Food Art topic. As the weather was so amazing, we were able to take our art outside and paint in the shade. We used graphite sticks and watercolours to paint a fruit and cakes onto fabric. When asked what they had learnt today the children said, "How to mix shades and tones and to start from the lightest colour and get darker", Using the right amount of water as too much may make the colours mix together," and You can use strokes with the brush or dabs." As you can see in the photographs below, the children did an amazing job. These sheets are now going to become part of a gallery display.
Thursday was Pyjamarama day. We had lots of fun wearing our pyjamas to school and reading stories with the children in Year 1 in our story swap.
