What a wonderful start to the term year 3 have had! We couldn't have got off to a better start than ending the first week with a school trip to Hampton Court and our first experience of a residential ... the YEAR 3 SLEEPOVER!
During our school trip to Hampton Court, the children got to explore the palace, take part in a workshop and end the experience with the fun magical garden. Whilst exploring the palace, we saw Henry VIII's apartments, his dinning room, the royal chapel and even his crown jewels! The children also went for a wander around the palace gardens and the large water fountain. Later on in the day, we took a visit to the palace maze! This was a challenge but we all made it out in the end - phew! During our visit, the children took part in a workshop all about the Tudor Kitchens. The children explored the kitchens themselves, learnt what food was Tudor and not, and also learnt about the different job roles in the kitchens. At the end of our trip, the children had some free time in the magical garden play park! The children absolutely loved it!
Our year 3 sleep over has been one of the most fun experiences the children have had this year! Throughout the evening, the children circulated around 4 different carousel activities: 1) decorating biscuits, 2) outdoor games, 3) Tudor chatterbox making, 4) Mr Hendra's PE fun. Throughout this, the children enjoyed a bisucit and squash break! After the activities, the children ate their dinner outside in the cool shade. To end the evening, the children enjoyed their decorated biscuits whilst watching a film! By the end of the jammed packed day, the children (and adults!) were very tired and headed to bed. In the morning, the children enjoyed a selection of breakfasts including different cereal, pancakes, croissants and pain au chocolate. What a great evening of fun!
Our new text in English this half term is 'The Iron Man'. So far the children have love the beginning mystery of where did the iron man come from? We have begun our writing journey by writing a recount in the eyes of the seagull - the only living creature to see the iron man crumble to pieces and put himself back together again. In order to do this, the children created a plan, focusing on using fronted adverbials to really enhance the readers imagination when picturing the scene.
This week in maths, we have finished our topic of mass however we are continuing with the focus on measurement. We have now moved onto reading measures in terms of millilitres. So far, both classes have shown a great understanding of the new focus!
I wonder what the next two weeks of learning will bring!
Children are expected to complete the following:
5 reads in their reading diary each week
Complete both their Doodle Maths and Doodle English homework (set Thursday to be completed by Monday)
Children are not expected to do Doodle and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)

If your child is unable to swim due to illness, could you please provide a written note. It is important that you advise us if your child has any medical conditions which would make swimming difficult. Swimming is part of the curriculum for Key Stage 2 and is therefore compulsory.
