On Tuesday 6th June some of our Year 6 Boy's Football Team travelled to Elland Road (Leeds United Stadium) to take part in the Premier League Primary Stars Competition representing Fulham FC.
We travelled up to Leeds on Monday 5th June with Cheam Park Farm Girls' Team who were also representing Fulham in the girls competition.
It was a very early start on Tuesday morning with an extremely busy day ahead. We arrived at Elland Road at 7:45am. The morning began with the opening ceremony, all 20 clubs gathered together in the tunnel ready to walk out on to the pitch and wave their flags.
After the opening ceremony was complete it was time to focus on the football. We had an extremely strong group that consisted of the hosts Leeds United, Manchester City, Wolves and Brighton.
Our first match was at 9:30am vs Brighton and we started very slowly going 1-0 down inside the first 2 minutes. We grew back into the game and finished with with a flurry of chances, we were just unable to find the back of the net.
Our next game was against the premier league champions Manchester City. Once again we fell behind early on in the match to a well worked team goal. After going behind it was one way traffic towards the Manchester City goal for the rest of the match. Late on in the game, Leyton and Pratyush linked up down the right side of the pitch with Leyton finishing the move with a composed finish past the goalkeeper. The game finished 1-1 and we had our first points.
After this we played against Leeds United needing a win to keep our chances or progressing alive. After a very close end to end game Sameer managed to slot the ball underneath the Leeds United goalkeeper to give us a 1-0 lead. We managed to see the game out finishing with a 1-0 win. We also had Farren to thank for pulling off some incredible saves to keep us in the lead of the game.
Our final match saw us go up against Wolves where we knew we had to win by 2 or more goals to progress to the semi finals. This match finished as a 0-0 draw against a strong Wolves team. This meant that we finished 2nd in our group which is an incredible achievement at such a tough competition. The boys more than held their own and should be so proud of their events to even make it this far!
We had such an amazing experience and we would like to thank Fulham FC for organising this trip and taking us to Leeds for the competition!
On Tuesday 13th June, the KS2 Choir went to St Andrews Church to perform in the Sutton Music Service's KS2 Big Sing. This year was rather a special performance because as well as performing an amazing rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins, the children performed arias from the opera The Magic Flute with members of the Royal Opera House. They were also accompanied by a small symphony orchestra also from the Royal Opera House. The children had an amazing morning and performed brilliantly.
Well Done KS2 Choir. All your practising with Mrs Greene really paid off.
Nine of our pupils' work was entered into the LGfL Coronation Art competition. The children had to design a vehicle for the King and his family to use for generations to come. The competition was judged by Will (Learning Manager at RCT) and Matt (Head Coachman at the Mews) who were impressed with the high quality of the artwork.
From all the schools across London who entered, there were only 12 winners, one of whom was Vaishu in Amethyst Class. Well done Vaishu! Her winning design (shown below) will soon be featured in an LGfL newsletter and on the coronation.lgfl.net site.
Please can we remind all parents/carers to ensure that their child(ren) bring a hat to school with them every day during this hot/sunny period. We are noticing a huge increase in children asking to borrow a hat from the office. Our supplies are getting very low as these hats are not being returned to us. If your children has a Brookfield hat with office written on it, please can you return it to us.
Don't forget:
Send your child in with a sunhat (ones that provide shade for the face and neck are best). Unfortunately all children will have to stay in the shade if they do not have a hat.
Ensure your child has a bottle of water, they can refill these as often as they like.
Apply a high factor sun cream to your child before they come to school (please do not send in to school as staff are not permitted to apply sun cream to pupils).
Sadly, the lovely Maria will be retiring on Friday 30th June 2023. Maria has worked as the lollipop lady for Brookfield Primary for 14 years. Over the years she has helped thousands of children and their familes safely cross the road. It goes without saying that she will be greatly missed. Maria is returning home to her native Holland, we wish her all the best for the future.
At present we are not aware of a replacement, we will await an update from the London Borough of Sutton. If you know of anyone who would be interested in the role please do get in touch and we can pass on their details.
Times have been difficult for all of us but I am sure one of our collective priorities has been the happiness and development of our children. Brookfield strives to achieve those same goals and we the PTFA works alongside the school to give a little extra help in providing some light relief and special events for all, whilst raising vital funds to go back into the school.
This year with your help our fundraising has provided money for:
Coaches for class trips reducing the cost of the voluntary donations passed on to you for school trips
£1,100 for Children in Year 3 - 6 to have a fruit snack at break time
£1,400 in class "wishlist" donations - items teachers have chosen and asked us to pay for including stationary, toys and games
£2,700 for a new storage shed
At the moment we are looking to have our Summer Fair on Saturday 1st July 2023 with only 2 members actively working towards it.
WE NEED HELP - WE need at least 30 people willing to commit to helping on the day as we cannot achieve our aim with just the two of us to do everything and unless we get the required number of volunteers to run the fair safely and successfully, we will be forced to cancel.
We have attached the volunteer sign up sheet for you if you are able to spare us some time.
We have worked really hard on this, trying to make it as good as - if not better than last year and really don’t want to cancel, but are feeling this may be our only choice. We appreciate that people are busy, the teachers are also stretched however it takes a community to make these events happen - it takes an incredible amount of time, energy & commitment from all sides to make it a success - without you we just cannot do it.
If you are able to help, even if it is just for a few hours, please complete the form please click here to sign up to help.

At Brookfield we are on our journey to achieve our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award and children will continue learning about the rights of the child.
This week we have been thinking of Articles 10 and 22. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognise their resilience in rebuilding their lives. This year, the focus will be on the right to seek safety. Every person on this planet has a right to seek safety - whoever they are, wherever they come from and whenever they are forced to flee.
Article 22 (refugee children) says: If a child is seeking refuge or has refugee status, governments must provide them with appropriate protection and assistance to help them enjoy all the rights in the Convention. Governments must help refugee children who are separated from their parents to be reunited with them. Article 10 (family reunification) says: Governments must respond quickly and sympathetically if a child or their parents apply to live together in the same country. If a child’s parents live apart in different countries, the child has a right to visit and keep in contact with both of them.
Each week, a child in each class will be rewarded with a certificate for their efforts to contribute to one of the articles in our charter.
For more information about the rights of the child click here.
We pride ourselves on offering our children varied and exciting experiences and activities that help to support their learning of the curriculum. The School Fund will allow us to provide additional activities across all year groups.
We have a voluntary school fund donation of £10 a term / £30 a year per child or £40 for a family if there are siblings at the school. Parents can pay for School Fund online via our Arbor payment system, go to Accounts - School Fund - Top Up Account.

Also, we do not keep the photos that we share so if you see a photo of your child that you would like you can save these onto your own device by clicking on the 3 dots on the photo and selecting save.
