Year 2 have had a great start to the second half of the summer term. In English, we have been reading the Roald Dahl story 'George's Marvellous Medicine'. The children enjoyed reading the first chapter which inspired them to write an amazing description of George's Grandma, using interesting vocabulary. We have explored this text even further during our Reading lessons using OrbitNote where we can use an in-built dictionary to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words.
In Maths we continue to revise previously learned topics to secure our understanding of the four operations, fractions and time. Next week we will begin a new topic of statistics, using pictograms to record information.
In Science we have started the topic of Exercise, balanced diet and hygiene. We want to make sure children understand what they need to do to be healthy individuals so in our lessons we will discuss what our bodies need to function in a healthy way, doing regular exercise, eating a balance diet and making sure we keep our bodies clean. Crystal Class showcased what they had learned in Science last half term in a wonderful assembly on Thursday. They were all fantastic, and we are really proud of them. Well done!
We are very excited to learn all about castles in our Humanities lessons. We will learn the parts of a castle, different castles in the U.K. and what they were used for. We will finish our topic with a trip to the Tower of London on Friday 7th July. Please make sure you sign the form that was sent in an email recently.
On Thursday we took part on the reading PJ day and Year 2 read to Nursery children and Year 6 read to Year 2. They had an amazing time.
Your child should read to an adult every day and the adult, not the child, should write a comment in the Reading Diary.
Doodle Homework is set on Thursday afternoon. It will be a task on DoodleMaths and another task in DoodleEnglish. Make sure your child completes both tasks before Monday morning.
It is encouraged that your child plays their Doodle 5-a-Day to remain in the Green Zone and to reinforce any learning that has happened in school. Your child should also try to play TimesTables Rockstars to gain speed in their times tables. Please do not help your child with Doodle or TTRS as these programmes are tailored to your child's ability so they can learn at their own pace.
