What a brilliant first few weeks back, the children have worked extremely hard over the last few weeks.
In English, we have started our brand new text 'Kensuke's KIngdom' by Michael Morpurgo. The children have been writing a balanced argument regarding whether Michael and his parents should sail around the world for a year. We started this write off by having a class debate, where the children discovered some fantastic reasons for the argument. We also looked at conjunctions to contrast and the children wrote some brilliant pieces of work.
In maths we have started to tackle multiplication. The children have been using a range of methods to answer two/three and four digit numbers by a one digit number. It has been fantastic to see the children take on this challenge. Please ensure children are using TTRS to develop their multiplication and division skills.
In Science the children have been thrilled to start our new topic on space. So far, we have looked at the order of the planets in the solar system, the definition of a star and a planet. We are beginning to explore the heliocentric and geocentric models. The children were very enthusiastic about the upcoming topic and we can't wait to find out more. Geography also marks a start to the new topic. We have looked at the cardinal and inter-cardinal points of a compass and different ordnance maps.
In RE, we have recently started exploring the Christmas story and the different perspectives people have. We had a really good discussion surrounding what subjunctive means and how this affects different stories.
Well done for a fantastic few weeks year 5!
