What a wonderful first two weeks back year 3 have had!
In maths, we have started to focus on multiplication. To begin, we have recapped the 3 timetables from last year and have started to progress onto the 4 timetables. The children showed a really strong understanding of the 3 timetables and have made a brilliant start to learning about the 4 timetables. We will be moving onto the 8 timetables too so extra practise on the 4's and 8's would be great!
In English, we have started to look at a new class text called "The rhythm of the rain". To begin exploring this book, we have focused on the setting and describing this using a range of grammar techniques. There has been a heavy focus on ensuring there are a range of sentence starters and to do this, the children have been using different fronted adverbials to state where something is. This has been very useful for adding even more description in their writing.
Our new science topic this half term is 'Rocks and Fossils'. We have started our learning by exploring the 3 types of natural rocks (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary) as well as exploring different types of human made rocks, such as bricks and concrete. The children took part in an investigation to look at the properties of natural rocks including whether they were permeable, their durability and their density.
Finally, in geography this half term, we are looking at the topic 'Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers'. So far, we have focus on mountain! We have explored how their are made using tectonic plates as well as the different layers of the Earth to cause this (for example, the different types of crust - oceanic and continental.
We can't wait to see what we is learnt next! Happy Weekend!
Children are expected to complete the following:
At least 5 reads in their reading diary each week
Centuary is now live! A piece of maths and English homework will be set every Thursday with a due date of the following Monday. The homework will appear at teh bottom under 'assignments'. The pathway at the top is suggested additional work that can be worked through as and when but is not an expectation to be completed.
Times table rock stars does not have to be completed daily, but it is encouraged to practise as much as possible.
Children are not expected to do Doodle and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)
Please note, the inside of the reading diaries have changed. There are dates on each page and a 'homework' section on the left hand side but please ignore these. Please see the image below of how to insert the reads into the new reading diaries.
