Another successful few weeks for year five!
In English, we have continued our text 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo. The children have been writing a narrative continuing the story where Michael woke up on the beach. The children enjoyed exploring different figurative language and fronted adverbials to use to make their writing more interesting. We are extremely proud of the writing below.
In maths we have started to tackle the tricky concept of division! The children have used their multiplication skills to develop their knowledge on division using a range of skills such as partitioning and short division.
In Science the children have been continuing our new topic on space. So far, we have looked at the order of the planets in the solar system, the definition of a star and a planet and helio and geo centric models. The children had great fun this week exploring the relative distance between the different planets. We used 1 toilet paper sheet = 50, 000, 000 km. It was so interesting to see how far apart the planets were in our solar system for children to get an idea of truly how big our solar system is!
Last week, we were also lucky enough to have an antibullying workshop. The children really enjoyed exploring power imbalances and the different things to do if you are being bullied or are witnessing bullying such as using your voice to stand up for yourself! This learning was then solidified in our PSHE lesson, where explored direct and indirect bullying. The children looked and categorised the different types of bullying, thought about what the person being bullied can do and what their friends.
Well done for a fantastic few weeks year 5!
