Over the last fortnight, we have continued to show resilience and work hard in Year 4
In Maths over the last fortnight, through a variety of engaging activities, we've been assisting your children in recognising patterns and connections between the various times tables. They’ve discovered that the 10 times tables serve as a solid foundation for understanding the patterns of the 9, 11, and 12 times tables.n the 9 times table, students observed that the ones digit follows a repeating pattern of 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. The 11 times table, on the other hand, exhibits a pattern where the tens and ones digits are the same, and the ones digit increases by 1 each time, starting from 1 and wrapping around to 0 at 9. The 12 times table also exhibits a pattern where the tens digit increases by 1 each time, while the ones digit remains the same.
As part of our English lessons, the children have explored the nuances of formal and informal language, delving into the appropriate usage of each in different contexts. Additionally, they have gained proficiency in employing the connecting words "yet" and "but" to effectively link sentences and convey contrasting ideas. To further solidify their grasp of these concepts and prepare them for their upcoming diary entry assignment, your children have engaged in stimulating activities that foster creativity and empathy. They have created freeze frames, capturing key moments from the story and visualizing the characters' emotions and actions. Additionally, they have developed thought trackers, documenting the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters, providing valuable insights into their motivations and perspectives.
As part of our Geography topic, your children have continued to expand their knowledge of the Arctic and Antarctic, exploring the similarities and differences between these two polar regions. In addition, we have delved into the human footprint on Antarctica, examining the impact of human activities on this pristine environment. The children have gained a deeper understanding of the key distinctions between the Arctic and Antarctic. They have learned that the Arctic is an ocean surrounded by landmasses, while the Antarctic is a continent surrounded by a vast expanse of sea. The Arctic experiences a milder climate than the Antarctic due to its lower elevation and proximity to the Gulf Stream's warm currents. In contrast, the Antarctic's higher elevation and remoteness from warm ocean currents contribute to its colder climate.
Throughout our Science lessons, your children have continued their journey towards becoming eco-conscious citizens by learning about sustainability and how to reduce their carbon footprint. Through engaging activities and discussions, they have gained valuable insights into the impact of human activities on the environment and the importance of adopting sustainable practices for a healthier planet. One of the key takeaways from these lessons is the concept of a carbon footprint, which represents the total amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere due to an individual's or organization's activities. Your children have learned that reducing their carbon footprint is crucial in mitigating climate change and preserving the environment for future generations.
To empower your children to take action, we have explored various ways to reduce their carbon footprint. These include:
Transportation: Encourage walking, cycling, or using public transportation instead of relying on private vehicles whenever possible.
Energy Consumption: Promote energy conservation measures at home, such as turning off lights when not in use, unplugging electronics, and using energy-efficient appliances.
Food Choices: Opt for locally sourced, seasonal produce to minimize transportation emissions. Consider reducing meat consumption and incorporating more plant-based meals.
Waste Reduction: Practice the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Encourage mindful consumption and proper waste disposal to minimize landfill contributions.
Sustainable Products: Support businesses that prioritize sustainability and use eco-friendly products whenever possible.
Although it may be a little early we have started practising our christmas carols for our concert on the 7th of December. We appreciate each moment of practise you do together at home too.
Thank you for your continued support and as always if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
