In maths, year 3 have been using their timetables knowledge to assist them with division. The children have been looking at sharing objects to assist them with division. This has helped the children to visualise the question in order to solve it. They also took this a step further by creating the fact families using their knowledge of inverse operations.
We have continued our writing journey about "The rhythm of rain" by creating kenning poems. A kenning poem is a riddle that describes something without using the name of what is being described. The children made collaborative plans to help them gain a range of vocabulary to use in their poems. The children also had the opportunity to perform their poems and even managed to record them using their Chromebook on Flipgrid.
This week we also looked at the festival of Diwali. We are fortunate to have several children in the year group - including Mrs Pareek - who celebrate Diwali. Their stories and knowledge of the festival were lovely to hear and share. To recognise this festival, the children worked in groups to create their own rangoli patterns using tissue. They all looked beautiful!
During our geography lessons, we have continued to look at mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes. We have continued to look at the different types of plate boundaries and the make up of earth (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core). This week, we focused on researching the mountains: the Alps. The children had the opportunity to research the Alps and find a range of facts about it.
