Greetings The children have been working very hard and enjoying their learning.
In Writing, the children have explored the book 'Pirate Stew', an exciting rhyming book with repeated sections that the children have been keen to join in with. They have used the book to help them write a recipe for their own pirate stew. They thought of all the different ingredients they could use, some delightful, some revolting and used noun phrases to describe them. They then used imperative verbs (bossy words) to write their instructions.
In Maths, the children have been dividing by 2, 5, and 10. They have used practical methods and their times tables to help them complete their tasks. They have looked at the difference between sharing into a given number of groups and grouping, knowing how many are in the group and working out how many groups you need.
In Science, the children are continuing their topic on Recycling. They looked at the types of materials that can be recycled and sorted objects into the correct recycling bins.
In History, as part of our Land Ahoy topic, the children have continued to study the life of Sir Francis Drake, the first Britain to circumnavigate the world. They have ordered his route around the world focusing on the oceans he sailed on and the continents he passed.
In Design Technology, the children have been tasting types of bread and deciding if brioche, baguette or a sliced loaf are their favourite. They then thought about why they liked those particular breads, was it the taste, the texture or the look of the bread.
In RE, we have begun our unit about how Jesus is special to Christians and have thought about super heroes. They used ideas from the lesson to help them design a super hero cape, showing why their character was a super hero. We are looking forward to our Christmas Workshop next week.
