Foodbanks

If you're facing financial hardship due to personal circumstances, loss of work or benefit changes, we have a few options to ensure you will have the food you need. Food banks are used by hundreds of thousands of people across the UK and to visit a food bank you need a referral. This can be done through University Centre by completing the google form below, via the council or Citizens Advice. We also have a small food bank set up at University Centre to provide emergency support.

UC Foodbank

The University Centre on Park Lane now has a pantry you can access if you need emergency food. The food bank is mostly made up of non-perishable foods such as pasta, rice, tinned food and sauces in addition to a small number of household essentials you might need such as toothpaste and soap. To access the pantry please complete the request form or speak with the Student Support team directly via laura.macgregor@ucleeds.ac.uk.

Trussell Trust Referral

Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and provide emergency food. We are partnered with the Trussell Trust to give you a food bank voucher to access emergency food. You would then take the voucher to a food bank centre near you where it can be redeemed for a minimum of three days' emergency food. To get a voucher please complete this form. Information is confidential and we won't share it with anyone.

The Real Junk Food Project

They are the UK’s largest environmental charity redistributing surplus food from across the food industry. You can either buy ready made food boxes for various sized families, or shop at their sites and pay as you feel. They have sites in Leeds (Stourton) and Wakefield (City Centre). Access their 'Magic Boxes' via the Too Good To Go app.

Too Good To Go is a community of Waste Warriors fighting food waste together. As a user, save meals from stores and food professionals around you. Download the app and set your location, then you will find local food around you - most notably, Morrisons do a veg box which can save you so much money on your weekly shop
