Students with mental health difficulties or concerns about their wellbeing can discuss their needs with a member of the Student Support team. We have qualified counsellors who can offer confidential support, tailored to an individual's needs, such as short term counselling, mentor support, referral and signposting information, as well as support with deadlines and communication with tutors.
Short term counselling support is available for students at the University Centre. If you refer yourself for mental health support at the university, you will be invited to attend an initial assessment, where you will be asked to answer some questions about your support needs and have the opportunity to ask any questions about the counselling process.
You can refer yourself for an initial assessment by using the referral form at the bottom of this page. You will be contacted as soon as possible. Please be aware that there may be a waiting list. If you decide counselling is not for you, there is the opportunity to discuss other mental health support and resources available. You are welcome to return at a later date if you change your mind.
Please remember to make an appointment with your GP if you are concerned about your mental health. You are encouraged to talk to your tutors if your difficulties are impacting on your studies.
Please read the document below before completing the referral form.
If you have a mental health difficulty, a DSA can provide support to help you study more independently. It can provide non-medical help such as 1:1 mentoring or study skills support. Some students are awarded a combination of items depending on their needs.
Support staff will happily provide advice and guidance to eligible students who wish to apply to their funding body for DSA, from what evidence you’ll need, to arranging a Needs Assessment, to how to arrange your final support package.
Please get in touch via the referral form at the bottom of the page if you would like to discuss this further.
