You determined what students will learn by clarifying the Learning Goals of the lesson. The next step is to determine how they will learn the content identified in the Learning Goals and assessed by the Assessment Prompts. Learning Activities are the means by which students will learn the knowledge and skills specified in the learning goals.
While there are any number of types of Learning Activities, they cannot be selected randomly. Sometimes it is tempting to incorporate a particular Learning Activity because students have enjoyed it in the past or because it is a favorite instructional technique. Instead, ask if the particular Learning Activity is the best one to ensure that students accomplish the Learning Goal for that part of the lesson. This is what it means to be an intentional teacher.
