[January 2021] Just in case you were not aware...
Some teachers at Vandegrift just discovered yesterday you can record the Zoom session without showing the students. They're having to record some of their live classes to share with students who do not have a live teacher. They don't want the student thumbnails showing in the recordings because they will be seen by students in other classes. Instructions below + tips:
If you share your screen without the active speaker thumbnail or disabled the Record thumbnails while sharing option in your cloud recording settings, the recording will only display the shared screen.
Tips:
You must record to the cloud vs. within Zoom
You must edit settings from the web version of Zoom under Recordings | Turn off record thumbnails when sharing (the default is on so you have to uncheck the box)
Working during office hours and waiting for students to join (credit Rebecca Zabel-Brewer):
If you are using Zoom during your office hours and you want to work while you wait...here is what I figured out for Zoom
1. Start meeting but put yourself on Mute and Video Off; I’ll (Minton) add pause recording.
2. Click on Manage Participants.
3. Click on MORE
4. Make sure Chime on Entry/Exit is checked and you will get a Doorbell sound when someone is checking into your waiting room.
Passwords required
Waiting rooms enabled as default
