Highlights from the Wellness Policy

  • Non-smart snack foods cannot be purchased/consumed until the school day has ended (by any group on campus).

  • “School day” means the period from the midnight before, to 30 minutes after the end of the official school day. 7 C.F.R. 210.11(a)(5)

  • “Smart Snacks” Standards – Nutritional guidelines that must be met for foods and beverages that are not part of the regular meal program.

  • Individual Classroom Lessons : if a class lesson involves food AND the activity/lesson plan is related to your curriculum/TEKS for that class, then the food/supply item is exempt from the Wellness Policy. You must turn in a copy of the lesson plan/activity with the expense for the procard report.

    • Fun food activities/celebrations are not exempt and need to follow the Wellness Policy guidelines.

  • For foods and beverages that are not part of the regular meal program (whether sold or provided during the school day) must be approved by Steve Smith, CNS Director. Please email Steve at Steve.Smith@leanderisd.org . You will need to provide the following with your email:

• picture of the nutrition label

• printout of the Smart Snack Calculator results

• short explanation of the time and place of your snack

** if approved by Steve Smith, please provide your bookkeeper with documentation
