All classwork is updated in Google Classroom each day. It is important to demonstrate integrity when working in the criminal justice field, thus the E.C. Glass Honor Pledge will be emphasized and adhered to in the classroom. With the exception of group work, it is expected that all assignments will be the work of each individual student. Additionally, any sources used in research papers and project will be cited using APA format, and quotation marks will be used to indicate credit direct quotes.
Grades are calculated using total points (not percentages). Students are graded in the following categories: bell ringers/exit tickets; workplace readiness skills; daily assignments; and assessments/projects. Rubrics are provided for projects and practical applications.
All assignments are posted in Google Classroom and due on time. This includes bell ringers and exit tickets. Late work is extremely inefficient to grade and receives a 10% penalty for each day it is submitted after the due date. No work for a past quarter will be accepted after the respective quarter grade is posted.
Students should have time to work, rest, explore hobbies, and socialize with friends/family outside of school. As long as students are staying on task and on track in the classroom, no homework will be assigned. Studying for upcoming tests is strongly encouraged.
Summative assessments, or tests, are given at the end of each unit. There are typically 50 questions worth 4 points each for a total of 200 points. To review, students compete in teams for extra credit the day prior to a test. Test corrections are worth 1/2 credit, or 2 points per corrected answer. The instructor maintains all completed tests and hands them back at the end of the year to be used as a study guide for the final exam.
Final exam questions are pulled directly from tests. Criminal Justice 2 students who pass the NOCTI Criminal Justice Certification Exam are exempt from the end of year exam. The NOCTI has 180 questions and covers 8 criminal justice related topics. The national average is 67%, and the cut score for passing is 52%. NOCTI scores are not added to the gradebook. If a student passes the NOCTI and opts not to take the final exam, the student's final grade will be an average of their 4 quarters.
While there are some extra credit opportunities built into assignments and assessments, extra credit is not assigned to individual students. Students are expected to complete high quality work on time every day.
