Hi Parents!
It was great to see and meet many of you last week at Back to School Night. Here is the slideshow if you missed it.
Here are a few things we have been practicing this week:
Email Etiquette: How to properly email a teacher and some tips and tricks for managing your inbox
Short Story & Story Elements: We read the wonderful (and apropos) short story 'Eleven' by Sandra Cisneros and identified the story and plot elements (i.e. protagonist, antagonist, climax, resolution)
Coming Up!:
iReady: On Monday and Tuesday of next week, students will take the iReady Reading Diagnostic. Data will be shared via Aries.
Questions/ prompts to ask your middle schooler:
Which teacher did you write your email to?
Tell me a bit about the short story you read this week.
Thank you and have a great weekend!
Ms. Irving
Science students built their Interactive Science Notebooks (ISNs) this past week. We started on our Unit 1: Energy Transfer. If you want to check to see what your child should have done, go to Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Week --> Weekly Slideshow --> Find Weekly Checklist. Here is the checklist for Week 3:
Hi Families,
It has been a busy but fantastic first few weeks of 6th grade. It was nice to see many of you at Back to School Night. If you were not able to attend, you can find the presentation, proficiency scales, student projects, etc on our class website.
We have been learning several EduProtocols to get to know each other and to learn various landforms.
Next week, we will continue with landforms and begin the five themes of geography and timelines.
Best,
Dr. A
The first two weeks have been full of excitement and learning new routines. Now that the students are familiar with their schedules and the locker room processes we are finally able to get into a rhythm. We are starting the year with a badminton unit, and the students have been practicing their service and rally skills so that we can start a doubles tournament in the coming days.
BAND - We are starting ground zero here on the standard of excellence method book. Trying to get everyone all on the same page. Thursday 9/5 will be our first day playing all together as a band.
MUSIC EXPLORATORY - Our focus in the first few weeks has been learning our choral piece, "A light of hope, a song of peace." Thursday 9/5 we will be recording the entire song and listening back, in order to analyze our strengths and shortcomings.
