Your badge is required at Blackberry, Grizzly, and Strawberry Gates to enter the Lab's hill site. 


It is also required to enter Lab buildings.

BUILDING ACCESS


Your badge is required to access Lab buildings. All badges are set to open exterior doors M-F, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can add additional access.

GERT / SECURITY TRAINING


GERT (General Employee Radiological  Training) is required of ALL employees, and if your training has expired your badge WILL NOT work.


SES-0200 training is required of ALL new employees and recommended for those returning.

SITE ACCESS


Blackberry Gate: open 24/7

Strawberry Gate: open M-F, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for entry & exit

Grizzly Gate: Entrance for vehicles from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Exit for vehicles, bikes, &  pedestrians at all times. Bikers & pedestrians - call SOC for entry @510-486-6999.


You can request access to the Lab's hill site for a delivery driver, ride share,  or a family/friend pickup or drop off.

SITE OPERATIONS CENTER

The SOC is open 24/7 and staffed by security officers. If you have any safety or security issues while on a Lab site and need assistance, call the SOC at 510-486-6999.

Obtaining vaccination against COVID, including booster doses, are required of Lab employees.

FACE COVERS

Face covers are no longer required inside Lab buildings. They are always allowed. If community conditions change face covers may be required.

Masks are available at the Strawberry and Blackberry gates, and from Building Managers.

WILDLIFE


The Lab is home to a variety of wildlife.  Cute as some might be, they are wild, and as one employee put it, "the Lab is not a petting zoo."  Respect the wildlife by staying a safe distance away and driving at or below the speed limit of 15 m.p.h.

OFF HILL LOCATIONS

EMERY STATION EAST

Administrative assistance will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with staff providing service on a rotating basis. The lobby receptionist area will be staffed on a rotating basis.

Non-lab operational space will be shared and assigned. 

BUILDING 971


Building 971 at 6401 Hollis Street is currently undergoing renovations.

POTTER STREET

Building 977 at  717 Potter Street in Berkeley  within the Aquatic Park Center of Wareham Development, near the Ashby exit off the Interstate 80/580 freeway.

9-1-1

If there is a life-threatening emergency dial 9-1-1.

The alarm boxes outside buildings also call 9-1-1.

Emergency responses are provided by the Lab's Security team, Alameda County Fire (on site), and UC Police.

There are emergency assembly areas, marked with yellow signs, in different areas of the Lab.

EVACUATION ZONES

There are six evacuation zones at the Lab's hill site. If the Lab needs to be evacuated for any reason, evacuations will proceed by zone.

OUTDOOR CAMERAS

Additional cameras have been placed around the Lab's grounds to improve traffic safety and security.

SAFE BUILDINGS


Safe buildings are designed to offer protection in the event of a fast-moving wildfire.

SMOKING AREAS

Smoking is limited to one of the 19 designated outdoor smoking areas. Properly dispose of all smoking material.

SPEED LIMIT

The speed limit on all roads at the Lab's hill site is 15 miles per hour for all vehicles, including bicycles.

SPEED SIGNS

15 m.p.h for all vehicles including bicycles.  The speed sign monitors vehicle speeds at the Lab.
