STRATEGIC DIRECTION
ANNUAL LAB PLAN
LEADERSHIP
The Lab is led by Lab Director Mike Witherell, with the assistance of two deputy directors, Deputy Director for Research and Chief Research Officer Carol Burns, an Deputy Director for Operations and Chief Operating Officer Michael Brandt.
MAJOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
BioEPIC
The Biological & Environmental Program Integration Center, BioEPIC, will be a new research and office building constructed next to the Integrated Genomics Building (IGB) on Alvarez Road. BioEPIC will integrate pioneering research in the prediction of biological and environmental processes - from microbes to watersheds - now underway in the Lab's Biosciences Area and Earth and Environmental Sciences Area. The building is under construction now, with the project expected to complete in Spring 2024.
Centennial Bridge
Centennial Bridge is an overpass where Centennial Drive crosses over the Lab's hill site at Lawrence Road. Replacing the bridge, which is at seismic risk, is a high priority for UC Berkeley and the Lab. The University of California has begun building a replacement bridge. Construction will take approximately two years to complete.
