BIO

Dr. Sean Noble holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of South Carolina and a BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Missouri. As a researcher at Savannah River National Laboratory, Dr. Noble focuses on ways to support the nuclear waste remediation efforts of the savannah river site using computer modeling and lab scale research with the goal is to solve problems in a way that is cost effective, efficient, and safe.

ABSTRACT

The Department of Energy’s environmental liability was estimated at over $500 billion in 2022 to clean up hazardous and radioactive waste from nuclear materials production. Many unique problems arise in the transportation, mixing, and processing of radioactive waste due to its complex fluid properties and radioactivity. Computational fluid dynamics modeling is being used to provide timely and cost effective solutions to safely process one of the nation’s greatest environmental challenges.
