So pleased to say that the NEA Big Read for 2025 was a great success.
Now, we're working on our grant for next year.
Here are some highlights from the 2024 Big Read.
Mr. Smith and Ms. DuRant assembled our community collaboration art project, titled "In the Same Boat". The project included art from members of the Lawton/Fort Sill area from all ages. It was unveiled at Cameron's Shepler Ballroom during Thi Bui's reading on Friday, 10/25.
Mr. Hale, Mr. Smith, and Ms. DuRant gave a book talk in the LRC Library during first hour on Friday, 10/25. Ms. DuRant shared information about the book and the Big Read, Mr. Smith explained the art behind graphic novels, and Mr. Hale gave context on the history of Vietnam. Ms. DuRant also made a punchbowl of delicious Vietnamese banana pudding.
Students and LRC staff alike were in attendance at Thi Bui's book reading/signing at Cameron's Shepler Ballroom. Student Vanessa, one of the artists for the "In the Same Boat" project, won a $200 gift card in the raffle! Congrats!
