Amazing Tech Support from LPS
Welcome to the Virtual LPS Legacy Gallery, an evolving adventure showcasing artists from Lawton Public Schools. The gallery displays artwork from former and current students as well as art created by the teachers who foster creativity in our students enrolled in art classes throughout our district. Our gallery is composed of a permanent collection and rotatings collection of artworks.
Floral installation created for LRC Open House by Assistant LRC Principal and floral design teacher, Lindsey Hoerbert included roses, lily grass, eucalyptus, & mini-carnations.
A Lawton High School PTSA grant generously funded the materials for the creation of the collection. Each of these massive paper mache’ creatures was created collectively by every art student attending LHS in the year 2006. During the project, students learned three-dimensional sculpture. After the creation of the sculptures, the artwork evolved into public performance. An extension of the project included outreach to young, struggling readers to enjoy reading in the LPS Kindergarten Academy program. Upper -level students wore the masks “Where the Wild Things Are” to bring literature to life and mentored young readers. Additionally, the LHS Drama Club used the masks in performance.
From 2016-2019, LPS art students focused on the Black History Month themes: Martin Luther King Jr, Notable African Americans in history, and Notable People who have had a positive impact on society. During the project, students learned the basic elements and principles of art including value studies in color. As you view the paintings, you will notice various color schemes--compositions in warm or cool colors or monochromatic, and unlimited palettes. The color schemes integrate with the themes including a representation of the subject.
Fall 2022 Installation: One Object with a Cord Gallery
In the One Object, One Cord pieces, students learned the fundamentals of art design by centering one object and creating a connection through the "cord."
The assignment has built-in structures that lead students to use the principles of design effectively and, in the learning process, create meaningful art. We hope you enjoy the work.
