🌍 Transdisciplinary Theme (Modules 1–2)
How We Express Ourselves: Our Transdisciplinary Theme for this module is "How We Express Ourselves". We are exploring the Great Fire of London, electricity, and the art of Jamini Roy. We will also compare different types of materials and explore our senses.
💡 Central Idea & Lines of Inquiry
Creativity & Change: Our Central Idea is "Human creativity creates connections and leads to change". Throughout this term, we will be investigating "How materials change and are used to meet people's needs" as well as "How creativity and innovation lead to change".

Sensory Story - Dear Zoo
Interactive Reading: The pupils enjoyed this week's story of Dear Zoo. They used chatty sheets to reveal each animal alongside the reading, and by the end of the week, several pupils began remembering which box held each animal.
🎵 Music & ICT
Keyboard Exploration: Pupils demonstrated a strong interest in exploring keyboards to create their own sounds. They displayed a great understanding of cause and effect, recognising that pressing different keys produces distinct sounds.
🚗 Physical & Active Play
Soft Play & Didicars: We enjoyed our weekly visits to soft play as well as zooming around using the Didicars in the hall.
🔥 Sensory & Creative Play - The Great Fire of London
Sensory Bottles: The pupils made Great Fire of London-inspired sensory bottles, enjoying both the finished bottles and the fun, messy play that came with making them.
🌳 Outdoor Learning
Sensory Upgrades: Our outdoor learning environment received a fantastic upgrade, enabling all students to enjoy our new blackout sensory swing and trampette.
🏰 History Enquiry - The Great Fire of London
House Building: The children had a fantastic time building houses out of magnetic blocks as part of our Great Fire of London enquiry.
🐲 Sensory Story - Zog
Interactive Reading: For our story of the week, we enjoyed an interactive version of Zog. The pupils loved pressing the board to reveal the fire-breathing dragon's next adventure.
🏀 PE & Physical Development
Target Throwing: In PE, we continued learning how to accurately throw an object at a target using a variety of balls, beanbags, and the basketball hoop.
🏫 Independence & Routines
Classroom Transitions: The pupils are now remembering where their new classroom is and are transitioning to different parts of the school with much less direction from adults.
👥 Class Identity & Routines
Teamwork & Belonging: Week two has seen Ruby class developing a greater sense of who we are as a class team. The pupils have begun to respond when called as a group by their class name at the end of break and playtimes.
💻 ICT & Communication
Digital Citizenship & Technology: The pupils have demonstrated good digital citizenship skills when using class technology, such as taking part in sharing games on the interactive whiteboard. Some pupils have been using the Clicker platform in phonics sessions, while others have communicated using GoTalks and talking tiles.
🚗 Physical Play
Didicars: We enjoyed using the Didicars in the lower hall, demonstrating excellent steering skills to navigate space and avoid each other.
🎨 Art & Inquiry
Charcoal Exploration: We explored using charcoal as an art medium, linking our inquiry into how materials change to meet people's needs with an investigation into the artist Jamini Roy.
🍞 History & Design - The Great Fire of London
House Construction: Linking to our inquiry into how creativity and innovation lead to change, we looked at pictures of houses before and after the Great Fire of London before designing and constructing our own houses in cooking.
🏫 Class Identity & Routines
Settling In: This week, we welcomed the pupils into their new class. They have been learning where their new seats are and discovering who their classmates will be.
Timetable & Structure: We introduced the class to their new timetable and have been establishing daily routines.
🔥 Sensory Play - The Great Fire of London
Putting Out the Fire: The pupils all enjoyed "putting out the fire" by using water in spray bottles to wash away chalk flames.
🏀 PE & Physical Development
Throwing & Catching: In PE, we began looking at throwing and catching skills, practicing with beanbags and a basketball hoop.
🥣 Sensory Maths & Fine Motor
Playdough Making: We made playdough, exploring the maths concepts of "full," "empty," and "more" while strengthening our fine motor skills through stirring and kneading.
🎵 Music
Instrument Choice: We enjoyed choosing between a tambourine or a shaker during our music session, making lots of happy noise together!
