Welcome to Module 1 & 2 and the start of a new academic year at M@LAD Satellite! We are excited to welcome our learners as they settle in, build relationships, and grow in confidence.
In this module, children will explore the many ways we express ourselves through art, communication, traditions, and the choices we make. Through guided inquiry, we will investigate:
How electricity and computers help us share our ideas.
How patterns, celebrations, and food express our traditions.
How signs and symbols help us tell stories about the past.
Learning will be enriched through creative activities, shared celebrations, and experiences in the local community. We look forward to seeing each child’s curiosity and individuality shine as they find new ways to express themselves.
Our learners have made a fantastic start to the new academic year! They have settled into their new classes beautifully, enjoyed reconnecting with friends, meeting new peers and adults and becoming familiar with their new routines.
Throughout the week, our learners have enjoyed taking part in their daily Read Write Inc and Maths sessions, alongside Snack Shop, Personal Care, Independent Living Skills and Guided Reading. During PSPD, they worked together to create and agree on our classroom rules, helping to establish a positive and supportive learning environment.
As we began our new IB unit, How We Express Ourselves, the children explored the topic of electricity and had the opportunity to experiment with circuits and investigate how electricity works.
We have enjoyed another week filled with learning, exploration and new experiences! This week, our learners began their weekly swimming lessons at Fairfield Leisure Centre, developing their confidence and skills in the water.
During our Inquiry Based Learning sessions, we explored technology in our surroundings, identifying different devices, discussing what they are used for and thinking about how we use technology in our everyday lives.
Our learners also continued to enjoy their daily Read Write Inc. and Maths sessions, as well as taking part in a Born 2 Ride session, where they developed their confidence, balance and cycling skills.
It has been a busy and enjoyable week for our learners! In PE, they developed their ball skills through a range of pushing and rolling activities. They also practised their handwriting and took part in Clever Fingers activities to develop their fine motor skills.
In PSPD, we explored the difference between being kind and unkind, discussing how our words and actions can affect others.
During Inquiry Based Learning, we explored the work of Indian artist Jamini Roy and learned about Diwali. The learners enjoyed creating their own Rangoli patterns, exploring colour, shape and pattern while learning about this important celebration.
Our learners have continued to develop their confidence and independence this week. During Music with Jak, they listened to a variety of musical genres, shared their likes and dislikes, and practised stopping when the music stopped.
During Inquiry Based Learning, we explored seasonal autumn fruits, planned how we were going to make our fruit skewers and then worked together to create them. We enjoyed tasting our creations and completed an evaluation, sharing what we liked and what we might change next time.
During Snack Shop, our learners have been developing their independence by recognising different coin values and beginning to add coins together to pay for their snacks.
We are incredibly proud of the progress everyone is making and the growing independence they are showing each day!
What a busy week it has been! During Drama with Lawrence, we began discussing our Christmas production, exploring the different roles available and looking ahead to the upcoming audition process.
In Social Skills, our learners enjoyed playing a selection of board games alongside their peers, developing important skills such as sharing, turn-taking and waiting patiently.
During Inquiry Based Learning, we explored the Great Fire of London using Makaton signs and symbols to support our learning. We created a timeline of key events and explored some of the differences between life in 1666 and life today.
We also enjoyed a calming yoga session, providing an opportunity to relax and practise self-regulation.
To finish the week, we celebrated achievements during our whole satellite certificate assembly, where learners were recognised and celebrated for their hard work and progress.
