After School Clubs

This term EYFS and KS1 have enjoyed getting back to nature and joined in with planting sunflowers and strawberries, as well as growing cress in gardening club. The children learnt what the plants need to grow and nurtured them so they were healthy. In science club the children have made tin foil boats to find out which boat will float the longest when weights were added. They also created straw aeroplanes and added weights to helicopters to see which would fly the furthest.

At KS2 the children have enjoyed working both independently and as a team in board games club and develop their coordination skills in football and handball club, as well as focussing on defence and attack tactics. They have also been continuing to develop their oral and reading skills when learning French.

Football

This term both the boys and girls football teams have played matches as part of the local FA Cup.

The boys played against Oakfield last week and Joey was the first player to score a goal. The following goals were scored by Lewis and Sam, with Joe scoring the final one. With Oscar in goal and providing direction for the rest of the team, he saved a number of goals which meant the opposition only scored 4; the final score was 4-4. The boys played well as a team and provided each other with support both on and off the pitch.

The girls then played against Gateway. Both teams were of a similar ability and the game was enjoyable to watch. Ellie scored the first goal, with Emily scoring another soon after. Lily scored the final goal, resulting in the girls winning 3-0. The opposition had several chances to score, however both Sophie and Ellie did a great job in goal as they didn’t allow the ball to pass over the line!

The boys then had a rematch against Oakfield, as the last one resulted in a draw. Within minutes Adam scored a goal, which was shortly followed by an equalising goal from the opposition. The second half saw Joe score from over the halfway line, however Oakfield soon equalised with a penalty. At full time the score was 2-2. We then went into penalties which resulted in Oakfield winning. The match was very close, with both teams playing exceptionally well.

Both teams played amazingly well and they were a delight to watch - well done DPA!
