This term has seen our range of clubs continue, with nature, strategy, art and multiskills on offer for EYFS and KS1 children. The children have learnt how to play games strategically and have created their own games to play with their friends. They have also learnt about different animals and plants in nature club and how to look after them.
At KS2, children have cooked foods from around the world, created different images using hama beads and developed their teamwork and ball control skills in basketball and football. The children enjoyed cooking spaghetti and meatballs, as well as knowing that the dish is a well balanced and nutritious meal.
Boys Football
In September, ten boys left Dartford Primary excited to be taking part in a local football tournament. We arrived at Dartford Football Club full of optimism. Our first game was against the favourites for the group but we went for it from the very first whistle and scored a quick goal. It looked like our solid defending would give us a victory until one of their players scored a curling effort from outside the box into the top corner. This draw set us up well for the next three matches, but three more draws meant that we had to 'go for the win' in our last game to stand a chance of finishing in the top 3. A valiant effort saw us lose to the eventual winners, but the boys can be very proud of the way they represented our school.
Girls football
In September, the girls competed against other primary schools in the local football event. We played 3 games, including against last year's champions. Our first game resulted in a 3-3 draw with Ankita scoring a goal and Ellie scoring two. The other two matches both left us 2-0 down, however the girls played incredibly well as a team, encouraging and communicating to each other both on and off the pitch.
LAT swimming gala
We took three girls to represent DPA in the LAT swimming gala this term. Vaniska entered the first race, performing the freestyle front crawl and coming in third in her heat - only just missing out of the finals. Phoebe then participated in the back crawl and came second in her heat giving her entrance into the finals. Only having 3 out of 4 swimmers for the freestyle relay meant one of our team had to go twice. Therefore Angola went both first and fourth for DPA with Vaniska swimming in second and Phoebe in third. DPA finished joint 7th overall in the competition - well done to all of the girls who took part!
Football World Cup
On Friday 25th November, 8 footballers set off to their own mini version of the world cup. We were representing the mighty African country of Senegal. With faces painted and flags ready, we approached the venue in fine voice, with some of the children having created a chant to get in the spirit of the tournament.
Our first match was a tight affair with several opportunities squandered. Our goalkeeper was in fine form, but was eventually beaten by a fine strike from outside the area. Losing the first match in the group meant qualification was going to be tough, but we approached the next game on the front foot. We were able to grind out a draw against a very organised Moroccan team.
This meant we needed to win the last game to have a chance of progressing to the quarter finals. Two quick goals put us in a very strong position but we were not able to add to this tally despite our best efforts. We were hopeful of getting through as one of the strongest runners up but unfortunately other teams had racked up some bigger scores and we went out on goal difference. The children had a wonderful time and were still singing on the way back to school.
