Year 6

Check out our learning from Term 4!

Inquiry: Writing

This term, Year 6 have been exploring our line of inquiry using World War II as its vessel. To start the term, the children have looked at the causes of World War II and two clear cut sides that formed. Their first piece of creative wiring this term took inspiration from a wide variety of props. The children used these props to generate ideas for their characters and settings. After blending their ideas with the Year 6 writing objectives, some cracking narrative pieces were formed.

Next, the class focused on the effects World War Two had at home,  with an emphasise spent looking at the Blitz. Using what they learnt, the children spent time looking at ways to stay safe during Blitz and a recount from being in a Luftwaffe air-raid.

Finally, they have been using a wordless picture book called the Arrival. This book tells a story of a migrant, who has to leave his home due an on going war in his own country.

Inquiry: Maths

This term, the children have spent time exploring and learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. These strands are an integral part of the Year 6 maths curriculum and we are extremely proud of them all for working so hard on a challenging topic.
