This term, Year 5 children have explored how changes in society can have lasting impacts on communities through a range of subjects and activities.
We studied Anglo-Saxon crime and punishment, looking at how rules and consequences shaped early communities.
English
As part of our English work, we created Highwayman-themed poems, staging a mock “crime scene” in the classroom to inspire our writing. We also examined the case of Burke and Hare to support our narrative work.
In Maths, we focused on Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction, working on fluency, problem-solving, and clear methods for calculations.
Year 5 pupils have started to develop their understanding of maps, learning how to read and interpret them and how geography links to how communities grow and change.
In Science, we studied how humans and animals change over time, covering life cycles and stages of development.
The children explored the collage techniques of Vik Muniz and created our own collages using a range of materials and textures.
This term has included a range of historical, geographical, scientific, mathematical and creative learning linked to our central line of inquiry.
We are proud of how Year 5 children have approached their learning this term and the progress they have made. Well done all of you!
